How do you create a complex main character for your story?
I think there are three primarily components of a strong character:
Strong characters are ACTIVE. Life is not passively happening to them. They are making the plot happen, for better or for worse, through their actions.
Strong characters are ROOT-FOR-ABLE. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are likable. It means that out of everyone else in our story, we are rooting for them to succeed.
Strong characters are SPECIFIC, in the way that they talk and in their personal point of view. General characters are boring characters.

The first workshop on building complex characters is happening next Wednesday (9/20), at 6pm PST/9pm EST.
